Donald in Math Magic Land

You must share this awesome video with your students. It shows how math is EVERYWHERE!

I had to explain some of it to my kiddos but they got the big picture. :)

If you would like to watch it with no ads, here is a link:

It's Your Lucky Day! I'm Practically GIVING Kits Away!

If you are a TPT seller then you know that TPT has this AWESOME new feature that shows your product statistics and it includes how many people have put your item on a wishlist. This is SUPER cool information.

As a girl who loves math, statistics are exciting to me!

Anyway, I noticed that MANY of you put my Take Home Math Kits: Games for Students and Their Families on your wishlist.

(I don't blame you, that set is literally the best thing I've ever made in my life.)

SO . . . .

For ONE DAY only I am putting it for sale for HALF PRICE!!!

Yes people, for TODAY only you can get it for $8.00. I will leave it on sale until 11:59pm EST time.

This is an amazing deal as I only spent HALF of my LIFE making this baby.

Enjoy!

P.S. If you purchase the set, AND leave feedback, AND e-mail me letting me know that you did, I will send you some goodies (and not the kind Ciara would send). :)

How To Feed Hundreds of People in 30 Minutes

Today was INSANE! Our district planned to release 3 hours early due to the potential ice storm that was on the way but 1 1/2 hours into our day it was announced that we were going to release 4 hours early!

Here was today's schedule:

8:45 - 9:15: Arrivals
9:20 - 9:55: Specials
10:00 - 11:00: Math
11:00 - 11:30: Lunch
11:35: Dismissal

Yes, everyone that was my ENTIRE day!

The most EXCITING part was watching our cafeteria staff trying to feed at least half of our school population in 30 minutes

When it was my lunch time (the very last) here is what it looked liked on our hallway:

And just around the corner:

Our school is pretty big but it went pretty smoothly because the people that work in my school are awesome. My kiddos only had a total of 15 minutes to eat after we got back to our classroom though.

So today I am thankful for my amazing school staff and also that I am safe, dry, and warm before the evening commute.

Excuse Me Please Ms. Turner . . . .

This morning during arrival time I gave the kids lots of some work to do and planted myself at my back table and tried to pick out a bedspread for new house analyze some testing data.

Aside . . .

Yeah . . . I know . . . not my Teacher of the Year day . . .

You see  . . . I have a lot of exciting things happening in my personal life so my attention has SEVERELY divided. I am having a hard time focusing on my school life.

I am sure that you can relate to this.

Back to the Story:

So, one of my little sweeties was raising her hand for like 5 minutes. I ignored her because I thought she was going to ask me something irrelevant really important like "where is my pencil?" or "this weekend i rode a purple pony, did you ride a purple pony this weekend?"

You know the type.

I continued ignoring her thinking she would put her hand down but she was persistent.

I finally said "How can I help you, Little Cutie Pie?"

To which she replied,

"Ummm . . . Ms. T I think that the math paper you gave us has an array on it. I wanted to be certain so that I could label the rows and columns."

((And the angels REJOICED))

Appropriate use of math vocabulary = Instant Mood Booster.

Start polishing that Teacher of the Year medal Mr. Superintendent, Ms. T is back on her A game.

Thank you Little Cutie Pie.

P.S. Don't forget to enter my HUGE giveaway

P.P.S. About my teacher of the year comments, I was only joking. Seriously. Just Kidding. Not Really. Okay, really. But only if they give me back my 1.2% raise. Okay. I'm just kidding about that too. Teachers don't need money. We don't have needs..

Maybe, just a urinary catheter.

The Potato Chip Champ: Blog Tour

I LOVE good character education literature. That was why when author, Maria Dismondy, contacted me about doing a review of her newest book, The Potato Chip Champ, I didn't hesitate to say YES, OF COURSE!

You may have seen some of her other books such as The Juice Box Bully, or Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun.

In The Potato Chip Champ the main character, Champ, learns what it means to be compassionate. He is jealous of another member of his baseball team, Walter and can't figure out why everyone likes Walter so much. When he is in competition with his baseball teammates to sell the most bags of potato chips, the unthinkable happens and he breaks his leg. Champ loves potato chips more than anything so he is very upset. Unable to sell potato chips, he knows that he will come in last place in sales. In an unexpected turn of events, Walter recognizes that Champ is probably lonely at home with his broken leg and comes to visit him.

I won't reveal the ending, but Champ learns more than one valuable lesson in this story.

My students were even inspired to come up with a kindness contract

I would love for you to be able to share this story with your own students as well. Please enter the giveaway below for a chance to win an AUTOGRAPHED copy of Maria's newest jewel.

My Week in Pictures: Week 1

Thank you for unknowingly volunteering to be part of my New Years resolution.

Only 4 pictures this week but I think that is amazing considering that I came back from a month long break on Wednesday.
And I dare you to ask any of my kids what a quadrilateral is.
They know it.
 I'm that good.
Just don't ask any of them to produce, expand, and rearrange complete simple and compound sentences . . . . okay?
I'm working on it people!
(Any help with THAT would be appreciated, I would even post a picture of you helping me next week)

Enjoy your weekend everyone! I'm doing something BIG that I will hopefully get to share at some point. :)
