Etsy Shop: Soda Maniac

As if I didn't already have enough to do I have opened an Etsy Shop of my very own!! It is not teacher related in ANY way, although proceeds probably will end up going back into my classroom. But I did want to share it with you in case you need some bottle caps for your crafting needs! :)

Okay . . . I hope to be posting something education related very soon, but I am lacking motivation at the moment as I am barely keeping up with what is going on in my classroom! It is crazy to think that I am going to be on my 16th day of school on Monday and most of you are still enjoying your summer vacation!

Five Linkies and a Freebie

There are a ton of great linky parties going on right now and I am so excited to be working on something so mindless after an intense 11th day of school! And so this post isn't a total waste there is a freebie at the end!  :)

(And yes, I really hadn't linked up for the July Currently until today!)

Linky Mania!!!!

And also, be sure to link up with Second Grade Sparkles, Back to School Linky. I am not sharing anything for this because honestly I STINK at Back to School stuff, I always borrow from all of my teacher pals. So what you need to do is go post over there so that I can get some more ideas!

Forgive Me Bloggers for I Have Lost

Guided Math: Confession Time:

Okay, so this week I am supposed to write a review of Chapter 9 of Guided Math. I was going to stand on the top of the tallest building and proclaim that Guided Math was my new true love and that everyone should get on board!

I have two confessions to make:
       1. I think I left the book in my hotel room in Myrtle Beach last month.
       2. I don't think that Guided Math is going to work with my current group of students.

If you've been keeping track, I went back to school with my newest kidderonies on July 9th. The are cute and precious and darling and a challenge.

I'm still going to give Guided Math a go (because I promised myself I would), but I'm not sure how it is going to fit into my current math block (which seems to shrink every day) and I'm not sure how much time I have to teach these kiddos procedures for Daily CAFE AND Guided Math. Right now it seems to be an insurmountable task.

Even though I don't have the book (I've been looking for it for over a week in preparation for this post!!) I do recall that the last chapter is on Putting it Into Practice.

Guided Math in Ms. T's Classroom:

Okay so here is the low down:

Monday, Wednesday, & Friday I plan to teach my normal Whole Group math lesson with (hopefully) some remediation at the end while students are practicing and eating their working snack.

Tuesdays & Thursdays I plan to pull groups of students. Struggling students called the Thousands and also the medium low students called the Hundreds, will be pulled both days. The Tens and Ones will only see me in small group once a week.

For the lows I think this will help a ton, eventually they will just start to bloom right? And at that point I can start pulling the Tens and Ones more often for enrichment, right?

So you can go here to download the PowerPoint that I created. It goes over our guidelines, our weekly math goals and tells the students which groups they are in. I will probably eventually create a slide telling which groups to go where but I'm not sure where I'm going to have them "go" yet. I know, this post SCREAMS of math intervention needed . . . for the teacher that is. :)

As Told By the Experts:

Okay, so I found a couple of A-M-A-Z-I-N-G resources for teaching guided math. These ladies are EXPERTS. One of them even includes TONS of ideas for centers. So you can download my dinky PowerPoint if you would like, but if I were you I would head over and check out what some REAL Guided Math teachers do! :)

I hope I am forgiven. Be sure to think of me this week while you are sleeping until 11:00am, meeting friends for an hour long lunch, and going to the bathroom whenever you please.

Have a great week everyone!

Must Have Picture Books & Giveaway Reminder

Hi all! I'm linking up with The Teacher Wife for her must have picture books linky. Here are mine:

One of my favorites in this set has to be Epossumondas. It is absolutely ridiculous. The kids LOVE it! :)
I posted about some more of my must have books in May.

I also wanted to remind you to enter my giveaway! It ends on Saturday! :)

Geometry Fun and Freebies!

I've been following today's blogger, Jennifer, from Delighted in Second for a few weeks now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading each of her post. Her blog is SUPER cute. Please head on over after you read her guest post today! And you should be looking forward to a post from Yours Truly one day next week about the AWESOME vacation I'm having! :)

Hello to all of Casey's friends and followers! I am so excited to be guest blogging for Casey, and I am hoping you enjoy some fun geometry ideas!

Some of my favorite math lesson's are the ones that incorporate children's literature. Stuart J. Murphy's books are among my favorite math books. To introduce solid figures to my students, I read Captain Invincible and the Solid Shapes to them, which they love!

Captain Invincible and his sidekick, Comet, are on a mission to fly back to Earth. Along the way, they face asteroids, poisonous gas, and aliens. Luckily, their spaceship has a panel of solid figure-shaped buttons. Each time they face an obstacle, Captain Invincible pushes a button, and the solid figure emerges from the spaceship and saves the day! This book has the students laughing, and by the end, they have a much better understanding of solid figures.

After reading and discussing Captain Invincible and the Space Shapes once with the students, we read it again as we complete the following Solid Figures to the Rescue! worksheet. Click on the picture below to pick up your free copy. This book and worksheet would also make a great math center.

My students also complete a Solid Figures Scavenger Hunt as homework following this activity. I would love to have you visit my blog and pick up the Solid Figures Scavenger Hunt freebie!

Thank you so much for having me, Casey! I am looking forward to reading all about your vacation. Hopefully I will be able to contain my jealousy! :)

Ice Cream and Magic Wands

Yes, I am going to be one of THOSE bloggers. You know, who post things from their stores.  But I'm so proud, it is so cute!! AND, I REALLY haven't done this in quite some time. I've been giving things away left and right, no?

I'm also considering getting one of these:

I asked last night on Facebook for ideas for noise making attention getters. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Also, be the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person to comment on this post and get Scooping Up Facts for FREE! :)

Pinteresting Link Up

Hello all! Today was my third day back to school. It is 7:42pm. As I type this I am BARELY able to keep my eyes open. But I am trying to do a few "normal" things before I go to bed so that my ENTIRE day won't be consumed by school. I was going to post about my first day of school but I have lost my camera cord and I am not going to get up to look for it. So sit back and enjoy my favorite pins from the past week! :)

Happy Wednesday everyone! :)
