Hello Mrs Sykes
My biggest memory was spraining my arm and getting out of handwriting for awhile! Haha :)
ReplyDeleteI have a chapter book that my 2nd grade teacher gave me, too, and it has an inscription telling me that she hopes to read one of MY books someday. Still makes me smile when I look at it!
I love the idea of a 2nd grade giveaway! Thanks for starting this!

I remember I couldn't say my second grade teacher's name; she was called Mrs. Trevaithan but I called her Mrs. Travison the better half of the year! (I also remember being very naughty that year and getting my name on the board a lot!)
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Looks awesome! Thanks for including us, and good luck to all the participants :)

Across the Hall in 2nd
I remember my blond 2nd grade teacher and bumping into her at the car repair shop while getting my car fixed many years later.... We remembered each other!

In second grade we moved to a new city in February. I remember feeling that my new teacher hated me. I seemed to get in trouble for things that happened even when I was not in the room (and I was a good kids too!). Probably why I was so against it when I was assigned to teach second grade three years ago after teaching 4th for 5 years. Thankfully, I have grown to LOVE teaching second grade!

My favorite second grade memory is definitely our trip to a Japanese Steakhouse after learning about Japanese culture!

I remember in second grade that I didn't like my teacher. She was really mean and I always loved school. I would go to the water fountain and then come back and pretend I was sick. I always got to go home when this happened! LOL, that is awful, but my Mom would always come pick me up!

Math is Elementary
My memory of second grade was total fear!!!! I was scared to death of my second grade teacher. It was back in the day when teachers ruled with rulers if you know what I mean. Those types of teachers mold us just as much as the wonderful ones. I vowed to never be like her. On a lighter note-thanks for the awesome giveaway. I blogged about it on my blog :)

I don't remember too much about 2nd grade...it was my 3rd grade teacher that I LOVED and wanted to be just like her! My 2nd grade teacher was very grandmotherly. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this giveaway!

Teaching Maddeness
I remember my second grade teacher as being really mean and snappy. She would get really mad and yell 'don't raise your hand if you don't know the answer!'.

My second grade memory is listening to my teacher read aloud books like James & the Giant Peach.

Thanks for the fun giveaway! I love finding new blogs. In second grade my teacher slipped on the stairs of our portable before school started and broke her back. Yikes! We had a sub, Mrs. Rizzo, for the rest of the year.

I Want to be a Super Teacher
I Loved my teacher, who taught us how to bark like her dog and she sewed in class. She also went to my church and I thought she was the prettiest person alive!
ReplyDeleteI LOOOOOOOOVED second grade. My favorite teacher, Mrs. Sikes, had her hands full with me as I was a friendly (loquacious) child. That being said, she loved me and was EXTREMELY patient with me. I remember she introduced us to a lot of hands on activities and we explored (what felt like) EVERYTHING! She reminds me a lot of Ms. Frizzle.
ReplyDeleteSister Gerald was my 2nd grade teacher. I loved school. Sister Gerald had 32 1st and 2nd graders to teach! I remember always wanting to please the teacher.
ReplyDeleteSecond grade was so long ago... I was in a very small school and it was sort of like a little red schoolhouse, so to speak (in the seventies). One teacher teaching 1-6, I may have been 1 of 3 2nd graders. I remember walking down the street from the main building to the little storefront that held our mixed class of about 20 kids (yes in all those grades!). I loved being with the big kids and holding my own, I knew then I wanted to be a teacher.
ReplyDeleteFaithful in First
My teacher, Mrs. Flummer, looped with first and second. This was before the word looping was in education-in the 60's a very long time ago. I wanted to be a teacher because of her, and I have taught for over 30 wonderful years:)
ReplyDeletebforbes@usd458.org
Congratulations on the great giveaway you've got going! My second grade year was HORRIBLE! Mrs. Stewart terrified everyone so much that I've blocked out all memories of the year except the terror! I think that's why I love teaching 2nd grade. I want to make sure that it's a wonderful year!!!!

Do you know what is awful? That I teach second grade.. but cannot for the life of me remember much about my second grade experience! Not even my teacher's name... yikes. That's awful huh?
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to tell you that I love your giveaway. I just found a ton of AWESOME second grade blogs, which is exactly what I needed! So excited to go through them all.

I remember figuring out how to tell time. It finally made sense to me!

I LOVED my second grade teacher, Pat Scanlon. I still keep in contact with her. She is totally the reason I became a teacher. 1st and 2nd were probably my best, most fun years of school ever. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember walking down the hallway on the first day of second grade and my first grade teacher, Mrs. Klein, pulled me into her room and said she was my teacher again. I was SO happy!
ReplyDeleteI loved second grade! There was so many fun things to do! Loved my teacher!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I didn't like what the teacher was teaching I would turn my chair around and look at the back of the room LOL!! What a sweet teacher I had, she was so patient with me!!

The thing I remember about second grade is my teacher's name was Mrs. Barnes and my sister was born on Valentine's Day when I was in second grade.

I absolutely love this collection of second grade resources! I'm bummed I hadn't realized there were so many this last year when I taught second and third grade! At this point, I'm moving down to Kindergarten- but maybe I'll be bumped back right before school starts!
ReplyDeleteMy own second grade though was a crazy year for kids and teachers alike. My class was a team-teaching classroom with two classes and two teachers but the wall was knocked out and we did most things together. This worked for the better because that year one teacher was diagnosed with cancer and left midway through (she died the year after) and the other left on maternity leave three quarters through. So, we had lots of coming and going that year. We did have two paras that were meant for kids with special needs, but they were our constant! Still, I have good memories of my teacher (the one who went on maternity leave) and have gone back and visited her and the long term sub for the other teacher often!
The thing I remember most about second grade is my teacher. She was my all time favorite teacher. I kept in contact with Mrs. Smalley until her death a few years ago. She left me wooden school bell from her collection. It sits proudly in my classroom!!

Pencils, Books, and Dirty Looks
I was in a 2/3 combo class. Ms. Farrar was my teacher. She used to sing the coolest songs with us. I remember a fellow student Vicki Lee always used to draw the pictures on my shirt. She was an amazing artist! I loved school!

My most vivid memory of second grade was while walking home from school I found an orange tabby cat and I brought him home. He instantly became a part of the family affectionately known as "Tiger."
ReplyDeleteI remember my teacher bringing in some baby black squirrels. Their mother had been hit by a car and my teachers family was taking care of them. They were so cute!
ReplyDeletelraines78@gmail.com
My two memories of second grade are my teacher that year and being able to join student government. My teacher was the sweetest, most caring woman I have ever met, and she is still my favorite teacher! She's the one who inspired me to become a teacher, too! But, during this year, I was also able to join student government. I ended up being the secretary that year because "I had the best handwriting" - I'm not sure according to who that I had the best handwriting because I most certainly did not!!

Second grade memories..... My grandpa died that year. I had chickenpox that year and when I got back, the kids told me that they played with dollies while I was gone. Found out it wasn't the kind you hold and cuddle - it was the kind you roll on in gym class! :o)

I don't remember much about the specifics of second grade. I didn't really get along with my teacher and our styles didn't mesh. I loved my friends and my school, but 2nd grade itself wasn't so great. I do remember running around the cafeteria with another girl trying to kiss a boy during lunch...
ReplyDeleteSecond grade was where I met my best friend. Even though we live across the country from each other, we are still in contact with each other!

2nd grade memory - My teacher hand-made me a foot stool for my feet since I couldn't reach the floor with my feet. She didn't like seeing my feet dangle. Well, they still dangle.

In second grade, I moved from Indiana to northern PA! Quite a change for a shy seven year old.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in second grade I remember being the teacher's assistant when we learned to tell time. She let me have control over moving the hands on the clock to demonstrate to the class and I remember being thrilled that I was "being like the teacher". Fifteen years later and I am a new second grade student teacher teaching time to my own group of students!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember much from my childhood years -- I do remember LOVING my second grade teacher Mrs. Sheridan. I had glasses in second grade and her daughter was in first grade and getting glasses and was very upset about it. Mrs. Sheridan arranged for us to meet so I could help her feel better about getting glasses. Since I had them and was OH SO COOL! :)
ReplyDeleteSO excited to find all of these wonderful blogs to follow! :)
My second grade memory is the amazing book fair our school had !

ReplyDeleteThere's a video of me from second grade participating in a dance program my P.E. teacher put together. Unfortunately I did the entire program backwards. They went left, I went right. They went forward, I went back. It's a shameful video but makes my family laugh :)
ReplyDeleteWow...amazing!! This is my first year teaching 2nd grade and these wonderful resources would be so valuable!! Thank you for the opportunity to win!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell - 2 things come to mind. Meeting my best school friend who was new that year and my cousin who was in my class was able to open his locker like Fonzie by punching it with his fist! Ooh, another memory just surfaced - school-wide spelling bee! That was a lot of fun!

I remember learning about the sense of sight and 'writing' our name in Braille using beans. I also remember our field trip to the pumpkin patch. We all tried to find the biggest pumpkins we could... but when we got back to school and had to carry them upstairs to our classroom, we wanted to trade each other for the smallest ones. Ha! :)

My second grade teacher was Miss Smith. She was young, beautiful, and so nice. I remember she used to let me go up to the board and help her "teach" math to the class. I loved second grade and hope my second graders have positive memories like I do!
